Lake Mead, the largest man-made lake in the U.S. (based on storage capacity) was created by the construction of Hoover Dam, one of the country’s modern engineering wonders. Due to its overall depth, Lake Mead stores more water than any other Colorado River reservoir, including Lake Powell. Both land and boat tours of the dam are conducted daily. The Desert Princess, a 250 passenger paddlewheel boat located at Lake Mead Marina, is available for tours.

If you don’t spend the evening in one of the secluded coves along the shores of Lake Mohave, you may find the local nightlife a nice change of pace from the peaceful days spent on the river.
Nearby Towns and Day Trips
There are several towns located in close proximity. Boulder City is located to the southwest of Boulder Basin, and very close to Hoover Dam; Las Vegas is just few miles west. Boulder City and Las Vegas all have supermarkets, fine dining, shopping and medical facilities.
Las Vegas, known as the entertainment capital of the world, is approximately 45 minutes away by car from the property. The Grand Canyon is absolutely breathtaking and worthy of a day trip.
You may find a short excursion to the nearby mining community of Oatman a pleasant change of pace. Oatman takes visitors back to the days of the Old West with staged gunfights in the middle of town. As you walk the quaint streets of the old West you may be surprised by the passing of a friendly wild burro or two. They are a trademark of Oatman and treasured by the local residents.
If a hike is more to your liking, then Christmas Tree Pass and Grapevine Canyon are two must-see places. This area is famous for its Indian petroglyphs, which can be viewed on the Canyon’s sheer walls. It is also ideal for camping, photography, exploring and hiking.
